Event Summary

Research shows that about 4-5% of women develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after giving birth – equivalent to approximately 25,000-30,000 women every year in the UK. Studies have also demonstrated a link between baby loss and PTSD and depression, which in some cases has resulted in suicide.

The Birth Trauma Inquiry made recommendations in May to reduce the rate of birth trauma and improve care and support for mothers and their partners.

The Pregnancy Loss Review also made recommendations aiming to improve the safety and care experience for all those who have a pre-24-week baby loss. Many people have been traumatised by their baby loss experience, and require emotional or mental health support.

Now is the time to address these critical issues in maternity care and drive forward the transformation of support services in the UK.

Attend Westminster Insight’s Supporting Women through Birth Trauma and Pregnancy Loss Digital Conference to hear from a panel of experts on the key issues including the recommendations from the recent Inquiries. Explore how to develop individualised care plans in collaboration with service users and provide support for future pregnancies. Hear about the importance of staff training to ensure that workforce is prepared to address challenging issues with compassion and sensitivity.

We will highlight examples of good practice in providing support to women who have had traumatic birth experiences, or experienced baby loss. Attend online to meet your colleagues and share best practice and challenges.
