Event Summary
The building safety regime is entering a new phase. The establishment of the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) paves the way for a single construction regulator with expanded oversight of higher risk buildings (HRBs), amid a growing volume of Gateway applications.
Chaired by Jon Vanstone, Chair of the Industry Competency Committee, Westminster Insight’s popular Building Safety Conference returns to provide a comprehensive update on the latest developments in building safety, construction product reform, and fire regulation.
You will hear first-hand from the Andrew Saunders, Policy Team Lead for the Building Safety Regulator who will discuss their plans to improve processes and operations through collaboration with the sector. Dr Barbara Lane, newly appointed Chair of the Building Advisory Committee will discuss ongoing work to improve standards, accountability, and competence across the built environment sector.
Catherine Adams, Director at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will provide an update on the new building safety regime, and discuss the implementation of the Grenfell Tower inquiry recommendations, and the remediation programme.
With the Construction Products Reform White Paper setting out major changes to the regulation of construction products, gain insight into the enhanced requirements for safety‑critical products, the development of a digital construction library, and new testing requirements.
The Building Safety Levy is due to take effect in October 2026, and we will discuss the implications for the sector, including project viability and building control approval processes.
We will discuss proposed changes for Approved Document B and new regulations ahead of their implementation from September 2029, including requirements for evacuation lifts and new guidance on roofs and external wall systems.
Hear from successful Gateway 2 and 3 applications to ensure you can provide consistent and robust evidence on a building’s history, design, construction and maintenance. Drawing on emerging data from the BSR approval process, we will explore how to strengthen submissions, manage information, and reduce delays.
With plans to develop statutory regulation for the built environment workforce, and an additional ÂŁ70 million announced to increase capacity in building control and fire engineering, we will review the recommendations from the Fire Engineers Advisory Panel on skills and competency requirements for safety-critical roles.
