Event Summary
From October 2026, the Competence and Conduct Standard will require approximately 25,000 social housing managers to hold a recognised housing management qualification.* This shift has far-reaching implications for social housing providers – including workforce planning, budgeting and resourcing, and day-to-day operations.
As we await further guidance on the scope and requirements, attend Westminster Insight’s Competence and Conduct Standard Digital Conference to hear how to prepare for the Standard before the transition period begins in October 2026.
Charlotte Hilliard, Policy Lead on Professionalisation in Social Housing, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, will share updates from the Government, clarifying requirements and timescales.
Leaders from CIH, councils, large, and small housing organisations will share their expertise and answer your questions. What will happen in a sector already under pressure and facing recruitment challenges? How can you develop a culture of learning and development that translates into tangible improvements for residents? How will you overcome resistance and get everyone on board?
Social housing providers will need to carry out skills audits, map training needs, and build relationships with training providers to ensure employees can access the necessary new qualifications, apprenticeships, and top-up models. We will hear from leaders, workforce development experts, and providers on how to engage with teams and embed professionalism across the organisation.
Changes will include oversight on culture and conduct at every level of the organisation. Learn how organisations are transforming organisational culture and raising standards of conduct. Learn how to embed a code of conduct with tenants at the core and set clear expectations on the behavioural and skill competencies for every role. Take steps to strengthen governance structures to raise standards and improve and monitor outcomes for tenants.
Join this conference to network with peers and learn what you can do to improve retention of great employees, draw out career pathways for continuous development, and strengthen your talent pipeline.
