Event Summary

Violence against women and girls (VAWG) causes immeasurable harm to victims and society. It is estimated that at least 1 in 12 women will be a victim of male violence per year*.  The new Government has pledged to halve violence against women and girls within a decade, and the National Police Chiefs’ Council declared a national emergency, after an increase in the number of VAWG offences by 37% in the last five years.**

With a focus on the latest measures and initiatives for the protection of women and girls, join Westminster Insight’s annual Tackling Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) conference this November.

Expert speakers will discuss proposed changes to policing, sentencing, prosecution, and victim support. How can government, agencies, organisations, and communities work together to improve outcomes for victims, and rebuild trust in policing and criminal justice?

We will hear about the latest legislation to safeguard victims and pursue perpetrators, including the Victims and Prisoners Act 2024, Online Safety Act, and Raneem’s Law. Gain a timely update on the new sanctions for perpetrators of domestic abuse, including violence, stalking and controlling behaviour, under the new domestic abuse protection order pilot.

Prevention and education are key pillars of the government’s strategy, alongside enforcement and victim protection, and we will hear from organisations who are working to reduce misogyny, and teach children about healthy relationships, respect, and consent.

Network with colleagues from across policing, criminal justice, central government, health, the third sector and more to gain policy updates and practical takeaways to tackle VAWG across the UK.
