Farah Nazeer
Chief Executive Officer, Women’s Aid
In December 2025, the UK Government published Freedom from Violence and Abuse: A Cross-Government Strategy to Build a Safer Society for Women and Girls, marking a landmark policy commitment to tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) over the next decade. This strategy reframes VAWG not just as a criminal justice issue, but as a deeply rooted societal problem demanding coordinated action across government, services, communities, and the private and voluntary sectors.
Chaired by Farah Nazeer, Chief Executive Officer of Women’s Aid, attend Westminster Insight’s timely Tackling Violence against Women and Girls Conference to hear from Government departments involved in delivering the strategy: the Department for Education, and the Department of Health and Social Care.
With a keynote address from the Department for Education, the conference will explore what the strategy means in practice and how it can be implemented. Gain insight into how national investment will be allocated to protect victims, pursue perpetrators, and deliver support for survivors.
Attend to hear more about the four core pillars of the Government’s VAWG strategy: prioritising prevention, pursuing perpetrators, protecting victims, and strengthening accountability. Hear from senior decision-makers who will share emerging good practice in local commissioning, service planning, partnership working, and overcoming the practical challenges of delivering the four pillars of the strategy at scale.
In conversation with Jessica Smith, Women and Girls Online Safety Lead at Ofcom, attendees will hear about the latest developments in online safety and the steps being taken to create a safer online environment for women and girls.
Rachel Gilmour MP will address the complexity and challenges of tackling VAWG in rural areas, including geographical isolation, limited access to support services, entrenched social norms, and reduced anonymity. Meanwhile, Jess Asato MP, VAWG Adviser to the Department of Health and Social Care, will focus on reforming the NHS response to violence against women and girls.
Focusing on prevention, Shreena Kotecha, Deputy Director at the Department for Education, will provide an update on the department’s role in delivering the VAWG Strategy, including the provision of specialist training for teachers. The PSHE Association will discuss the crucial role of schools in addressing the root causes of VAWG, including harmful stereotypes, misogynistic attitudes, and cultural norms.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear crucial updates, network with peers, and contribute to building a safer society for women and girls. Choose to attend either in person or online.
