Event Summary
“We’re absolutely committed to making sure every child has access to the sports they love both in schools and in grassroots clubs to not just help uncover the next generation of stars but to help create a healthier nation and change lives for the better.”[1]
Join Westminster Insight’s School Sport and Physical Activity Conference in London for practical solutions and fresh inspiration to help you unlock the potential of sport and physical education in your school.
With fresh commitment from the new Labour Government to improve access to sports in schools, you will hear from expert speakers the next steps for improving your PE and Sport provision in your school.
High quality physical education (PE) and sport play a hugely beneficial role in education. Research shows that active involvement in sport boosts wellbeing, resilience and concentration and helps young people to develop healthy habits for life. [2]
Chaired by Ali Oliver MBE, Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust, this conference will share innovative ways to tackle the barriers to participation and meet the 2-hour weekly PE guideline for all age groups.
Hear from Stephanie Hilborne OBE, Chief Executive of Women in Sport on how to remove barriers to sport for girls. Best practice schools will share their approach to supporting inactive children to take up physical activity and ensure equal access for all learners, including the 1.5 million+ pupils in England with SEND.[3]
From the Head of Theale Green School, who recently were awarded a Platinum School Games Mark, you will learn how to deliver an engaging sports curriculum and enhance your sport offer through collaboration with key partners. We will hear from Active Partnerships and England Rugby about initiatives to increase access to extra-curricular sport and competitive opportunities, such as the School Games programme.
With only 47% of children and young people meeting guidelines to participate in physical activity for at least 60 minutes per day[4], you will hear about the next steps for policy and funding to improve PE and sport provision in schools, in light of the new Labour Government. What progress has been made since the publication of the Sport Strategy last year? How can you leverage the PE and Sport Premium and form partnerships with local and national sports organisations to improve access to sport?
