George Hosking OBE
Psychologist, Clinical Criminologist and Trauma Therapist
An economist, accountant, psychologist, clinical criminologist and trauma therapist, George has specialised in reducing violence both at the systemic level, as an advisor to police forces, prisons, probation, youth offending teams, and the UK and Scottish Governments; and at the individual level working hands-on with serious violent offenders in numerous English prisons.
George’s publications include Violence and what to do about it and Working together to reduce serious youth violence. He has written extensively on how to tackle the root causes of violent behaviour.
He has designed and delivered workshops and presentations on trauma for 20 years, including workshops for the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish governments. His specialist knowledge of trauma draws on both his Advanced Diploma in the Management of Psychological Trauma, and years of working with victims of abuse and violence. He has trained thousands of people in locations across Europe and North America.
In 2017 George was invited by the National Police Chiefs Council to run the first UK-wide workshop on Trauma-informed Policing for senior police officers from Police Scotland, PSNI, Welsh and English police forces. He has advised numerous UK police forces, Police and Crime Commissioners’ offices and Violence Reduction Units on how to implement trauma-informed practice.
In 2014 George was awarded an OBE for his work in tackling violence and its root causes.
