Lady Newlove is the Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Bolton.  Her portfolio is widening and participation, where she provides strategic leadership as well as an ambassador for the university’s rich, diverse education for their vibrant community of staff and students.

In August 2007, Helen Newlove became a crime victim, when her husband Garry, was fatally attacked by a gang on the family’s doorstep. The murder shocked the nation and hit the headlines for months.

Baroness Newlove was given a peerage by the Rt Hon. David Cameron in 2010 and appointed Government Champion for Active, Safer Communities working alongside Teresa May as Home Secretary.

Best-known for her role as Victims’ Commissioner (VC) for England and Wales from 2012-2019, Baroness Newlove championed the interests of crime victims and witnesses; campaigning tirelessly to help crime victims and encouraging good practice in their treatment.

She travelled the country, meeting crime victims and listening to their experiences. She lobbied Government Ministers, heads of the Criminal Justice agencies, Chief Constables, Police and Crime Commissioners and victim organisations. She published key reviews that shone a light on pockets of the criminal justice system, including victim complaints, criminal injuries compensation, anti-social behaviour and the victim personal statement, always scrutinising the needs of vulnerable victims and urging better treatment for them. Victims and crime are both causes close to her heart.

Shortly after stepping down as Victims’ Commissioner, Baroness Newlove was invited by the United Nations Victim Advocate Jane Connor to work alongside other likeminded colleagues within the international fields for victims/survivors.

Baroness Newlove is in popular demand as a guest on TV and radio. High-profile media appearances include R4’s Today, BBC Breakfast, Victoria Derbyshire, Sky News, Channel 4, LBC and Desert Island Discs and she regularly reviews ‘The Papers’ on BBC News.

Judith is the Programme Manager for the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) at Standing together Against Domestic Abuse (STADA). Judith has worked for over 20 years in the domestic abuse sector both directly supporting victims & survivors and in second tier charities driving system change. Judith came to DAHA four years ago and has led on significant developments in the accreditation framework, creating a membership model and building capacity to better support the social housing sector to improve their response to domestic abuse.

Chris Grose provides specialist support to a variety of organisations such as local authorities, housing providers and the police in key areas such as Customer Service, tackling Anti-Social Behaviour, Safeguarding, Domestic Abuse, Housing Management, Housing Law, Governance, Consumer Regulation, and much more. Chris has held operational and senior positions at various organisations including an Arms Length Management Organisation, The Chartered Institute of Housing and a leading national law firm Capsticks LLP. Chris sits on the CIH South West Board, and has also worked closely with the Home Office in the development of the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014, giving evidence at the House of Commons Select committee and advising peers in the House of Lords.

Kara joined Sussex Police as a cadet in 1998, as soon as she turned 18yr she joined as a Police Community Support Officer. Realising her ambition she joined as a constable in 2008.

Kara was station in a small rural station in Crowborough, coincidently the same station that her great great grandfather had worked almost 100 years before.

Kara was promoted to Sergeant in 2013 and saw her move into Neighbourhood Policing which has always been her passion. In 2021 Kara was promoted to Inspector and become a Neighbourhood District Inspector.

Kara has real passion for neighbourhood Policing and the continued challenges and diversity it brings. Kara was a Tilley Award Winner for her work in Op Asteroid which was youth relates ASB.

Kara is the deputy force lead on community engagement for Sussex Police and continues to find innovative ways of engaging and recording engagement in the neighbourhood teams.

I am David Macdonald and am a Police Sergeant with Cumbria Constabulary. I have been a police officer since 1999 and have worked in a variety of roles from uniform response, community policing to project work. I have been directly involved in the creative and innovative restructuring of Neighbourhood Policing and Local Focus Hubs within West Cumbria where we have led on national firsts in this area. I have worked across the County in urban and rural areas and in a variety of roles from response policing and traffic policing to neighbourhood policing. I am currently the Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant for the Copeland District which has a diverse community with areas of affluence and some in the highest levels of deprivation in the Country. Neighbourhood Policing is my passion and I strive to bring the best service I can to the communities that I serve. I have been in this area of work for six years and have developed policy and procedures in the Constabulary for Neighbourhood Policing and partnership working.

Jon has worked in a variety of housing and housing related support roles over the last 30 years. Prior to his nine years at Sovereign he worked in homelessness/housing related support organisations for 21 years up to director level. Jon is the founder and chair of the HQN Housing and Safeguarding Best Practice Group, and a member of the DLUHC ASB Advisory Panel and Plymouth Safeguarding Adults Board. Jon holds qualifications in Social Work, Leadership and Change Management and Project Management. Jon’s current role includes the strategic lead for Sovereigns approach to managing ASB, Safeguarding and Domestic Abuse services across 68 local authority areas, 61000 homes and over 135000 customers.
