David Trickey is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who has specialised in working with traumatised children, young people and their families since 2000. He is Co-director of the UK Trauma Council which harnesses the expertise of the UK’s leading child trauma experts to produce resources for those working with traumatised children and young people, as well as guidance and policy briefings based on the best available evidence. He is also the Clinical Team Lead for a specialist NHS team working with children in care. His focus is on direct clinical work, and the training and supervision of other clinicians around the world working with traumatised children and young people. He acts as an expert witness in civil court cases involving children and trauma, particularly those bereaved by family homicide. He was a member of the committee responsible for the 2018 revision of the NICE Guidelines for PTSD. In all of his roles he draws heavily on the published research literature, to which he has made a small contribution.

My current role supports the training and education of applied psychologist in NHS Scotland alongside the national training programmes for psychological skills, interventions and therapies for the wider workforce. Within this I have an overall leadership role for the education and training component of the National Trauma Transformation Programme (NTTP). This is the national approach to support the Scottish ambition of a trauma informed and responsive workforce working in partnership with Scottish Government, COSLA and other key public service partners. As such I led and co-authored key guidance documents including NES (2017) Transforming Psychological Trauma: A Knowledge and Skills Framework for the Scottish Workforce and NES (2019) National Trauma Training Plan.

My professional background is a Consultant Clinical Psychologists and I have a career long focus on the impact of trauma and how we can effectively and safely support recovery and enhance prevention of future harm. I am the author of ‘Survive and Thrive,’ an evidence-based psycho-educational programme to support self-management and understanding of the impact of all complex trauma and been involved with a research and evaluation programmes. For 15 years previously, I provided psychological therapies to people who have significant, complex needs arising from their experiences of trauma. I am a member of the Board of the UKTC and previously had Board positions on the UKPTS.

Rebecca Regler is an expert by experience and an associate lecturer in social work education. She was a committee member for developing the NICE guidance on PTSD. She is a council member of the UK Trauma Council. She has an undergraduate degree in Social Work and an MSc in Mental Health Recovery and Social Inclusion. She is passionate about lived experience being used to improve services.

Dr Angela Kennedy is Director of Innovating for Wellbeing and Trauma Informed Community Action CIC. She is a Clinical Psychologist, system transformer, creative producer and ex NHS clinical director and regional MH clinical lead.

Karen Dawes is Partnerships Lead for Donna Jones – Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner.  Karen joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1993.  In 2001 Karen won the Metropolitan Police Officer of the year award in recognition of her partnership work with the local community in South East London and her approach to crime prevention.  This included being presented with a medal by the then Home Secretary Sir David Blunkett and being invited to Scotland Yard to discuss community engagement with the former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Sir John Stevens.  Karen transferred to Hampshire Constabulary as a Police Sergeant where she served Fareham and Gosport communities until 2007.  Whilst Karen loved being a Police Officer she decided to pursue a career in Community Safety and became CSP Manager for East Hampshire District Council.  This included managing the Community Safety Team and coordinating the partnership response to tackling crime and disorder.  During that time Karen also facilitated a behaviour change programme in the evenings with domestic abuse perpetrators.  In 2014 Karen took up the role of Commissioning and Contracts Manager for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).   This senior management position included the delivery of an efficient and effective commissioning service to meet internal and external requirements, delivering best value and achieving corporate objectives.   In 2023 Karen became Partnerships Lead for the Police and Crime Commissioner where she continues to focus on the OPCC response to the Integrated Care System (ICS), promoting a whole system and public health approach to deliver the Police and Crime Plan, and advocating and championing a trauma informed approach across the OPCC and wider partnerships.

Karen has an MSc in Police Science and Management, is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS), is trained as a Trauma Informed Educator, and in 2023 achieved UK Public Health Registered Practitioner status.  Karen is the first UK Public Health Practitioner from a policing background.

Shelley joined the Trauma Informed Plymouth Network in November 2023 and although fairly new to the team has used trauma informed approaches for the past 20 years in education (as a teacher and headteacher of several schools in areas of disadvantage), safeguarding and more recently leadership in primary care/social prescribing. Alongside her work for the network, Shelley is undertaking training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the Society for Social and Critical Psychoanalysis in Cornwall.
The Trauma Informed Plymouth Network aims to support Plymouth in becoming a Trauma Informed City by bringing together organisations, services, researchers, and other interested people within statutory, public and VCSE sectors to share the efficacy of trauma informed practice, for staff as well as those who access services and care.

Kirsty leads an extensive programme to ensure Scotland’s social work services are able to recognise where people are affected by psychological trauma, respond in ways which reduce risks of further harm and supports recovery. This programme of work, to design and develop trauma responsive social work organisations, systems and workforces, builds on Kirsty’s specific experience, working directly with people affected by trauma, in a social work context.

Kirsty has led on innovative work in this field over a number of years designing, developing and managing trauma responsive services. Her work is recognised as contributing to local and national developments in Scotland to improve experiences and outcomes for people in contact with social work services, and those that work within them.

Kirsty is committed to working to reduce the inequalities and disadvantage experienced by people affected by trauma and adversity. She is passionate about promoting different ways of working alongside individuals and their families.

Weekends involve spending time with children, family and friends, enjoying the outdoors.

Laura James currently works at the Improvement Service and leads work to support Scottish local authorities and key community planning partners embed a trauma-informed approach across organisations, systems and workforces. In previous roles, she has worked in the violence against women sector, including coordinating a network of projects that support children who have experienced domestic abuse. Laura holds a humanities PhD and is a board member for Zero Tolerance.

Dan has over 20 years’ experience in Occupational Health. Experience includes insurance companies and banks, airports, retail, and NHS. OH module leader for the Diploma in Remote & Offshore Medicine for Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Chair of Occupational Health Nurse in Policing (NTAPS) Wellbeing supports for emergency staff have included Music Therapy for those who have PTSD type symptoms.
